Christmas stats to discuss over Christmas Dinner

Some Christmas stats:

  • Love them or hate them, the Brussels sprout is a quintessential part of a Christmas meal for many. In fact, the British are believed to eat more Brussels than anywhere else in Europe. The industry is worth £650 million to the UK. For that, you could purchase over 1,500 detached houses, or over 2,900 terraced properties or apartments.
  • Over 500 properties have sold with either 'Christmas' in their name or address across England and Wales since 1995, with 23 'Christmas' sales so far in 2021.
  • Total UK spend per head on Christmas is set to reach £1,275, just over £200 more than the current average UK monthly rent (£1,058 HomeLet).
  • 15% of UK Christmas spending in 2021 is predicted to be on gifts, with spend per head expected to be £234, the equivalent of one week’s rent.

  • 28% of tenants are aged between 18 and 29.
  • 78.9% of residents within New Forest own their own homes while 12% live in privately rented accommodation.
  • The highest value recorded by the Land Registry over the past 12 months was £1,150,000 for a flat and £2,500,000 for a house.
  • 17% of sales in the past 12 months were flats, achieving an average sales price of £211,739. Houses achieved an average price of £469,815.
  • In the last five years there have been 1020 new private homes built across the Local/Unitary Authority of New Forest, an average of 204 per year.
  • Over the last 12 months, the average rent achieved for properties let in New Forest was £1,021 per month. This is a +6% change on the previous 12 month period.
  • 46% of properties let in the past 12 months were flats, achieving an average rental value of £783 per month. Houses achieved an average rent of £1,299 per month.
